  • key lighting - usually the most important light, the purpose is to highlight the form and dimension of the subject.
  • fill lighting - used to reduce the contrast of a scene to match the dynamic range of recording media. 
  • hair lighting - purpose to fill in the shadows that the key light has created.

American Beauty  Representation: Carolyn (wife): The way that Carolyn is represented in this film is that she takes control in the house and she's the 'man of the house' she chooses the music as she makes the most of the effort in the house. With her choice of music this could mean that she misses the past and she wants to go back as that could mean that was when the times were better for her and her family. This could mean that she has a poor life and she's in despair. When she's at home it's as if she's acting and putting on a different persona and acting as everything is fine when it isn't. Massive attack - unfinished sympathy Massive attack are a trip hop group, formed in 1988 in Bristol.  The group consisted of Robert 3D, Del Naja, Grant 'daddy' Marshall and formerly Andy 'Mushroom' Vowles(Mush).
