The paradise paper story cover
Write up a description of the main differences between the two front pages from The Guardian and The Daily Mail, looking at both conventions and how the stories have been presented to the reader.
On the guardians front page they use the colour yellow to represent the paradise paper story, there is bits of yellow all over the front cover of the guardian, they also have palm tree's and the sun, which are pictures of 'paradise'. The guardian has one main visual image which is of the queen. The view of this newspaper is left wing and the comments made on this are negative towards the queen, as if they were attacking her. The yellow links to exposure and it is highlighted so it stands out to the reader. On the daily mails front page there is just 'QUEEN DRAGGED INTO £10M OFFSHORE TAX ROW' with no main visual image of the queen herself, it is just a picture of the actress Millie Bobbie Brown. The queen is seen to be the victim in this as the verb 'dragged' puts emphasis on how she is innocent in this whole scandal.
Write a paragraph outlining why you think the Guardian created a series of news articles looking at the same issue and how that may reflect the newspapers political ideology and news values.
The guardians used the yellow splash over the 4 days to create the idea of relevancy to their audiences within that time to show the ongoing nature of 'the paradise papers.' This reinforces the guardians political views of their socialist views along with the economy. Britain is a mainstreamed capitalist society, in which the guardians questions the freedom of the press. This helps gain audience and heightens public interest as a snowballing ordeal with moralist views.Look at the Mirror, The Daily Telegraph, Daily Express and the Independent online newspaper and consider what you learn about these two publications from their versions of the story and the front page conventions.
The style of the broadsheet is Berliner and uses negative language such as 'controversial' and 'exploiting', influencing the audience with left wing views of the whole coverage on the 'Paradise Papers'.Look at the online versions of these stories via Mail Online and The Guardian website. Compare and contrast their coverage. Use the sites to find out as much as you can about the story, so you fully understand it. What other media elements do the two websites provide readers (e.g.: audio or video clips, hyperlinks to other sites or connected stories).
The guardians online news story still has the yellow theme and stuck to their left wing ideology by using words like 'reveals secrets' and 'hidden' words like this still keeps the celebrities in the negative light.
