Massive attack - unfinished sympathy Massive attack are a trip hop group, formed in 1988 in Bristol.  The group consisted of Robert 3D, Del Naja, Grant 'daddy' Marshall and formerly Andy 'Mushroom' Vowles(Mush). The group has won numerous awards throughout their career, including a Brit award. They have released five studio albums that have sold over 11 million copies worldwide. Massive attack started off as a spin off production trio in 1988, with the independently released song 'Any Love.' The video The music video for "Unfinished Sympathy", (a docu-fiction) was directed by Baillie Walsh, who had also directed the video for Massive Attack's previous single "Daydreaming", and was filmed in a single continuous shot from 1311 South New Hampshire Avenue to 2632 West Pico Boulevard in Los Angeles, California. what makes all these videos from a dance genre? -repeated beat -repeated lyrics -same tempo   Explore how the artists are using representation to appeal to their target audience in these three videos by picking out key frames from the video to analyse. -set on the streets -diversity of characters(race, gender, etc..) -something non naturalistic happens -all dancing at some point in the video -hip hop dancing  - sunny day -bright colours -colours match skin tone What other music videos could you find from the same genre? Outline two and explain why you think they are termed dance. Fleur East - Sax -  it has repeated beat, repeated lyrics and in the music video it uses bright colours, they do 'hip hop' dancing.  Kiesza - Hideaway-  this song also has repeated beat, repeated lyrics and in the music video this is on the streets, its a sunny day and there is diversity used with the people that are involved in the video.

key lighting - usually the most important light, the purpose is to highlight the form and dimension of the subject. fill lighting - used to reduce the contrast of a scene to match the dynamic range of recording media.  hair lighting - purpose to fill in the shadows that the key light has created. 

Video comparison

The Similarities between the two shots are that we both had one person standing in front of the plain background. the camera angle we used was very similar to the original A straight on wide shot showing some of the surrounding area and background. We managed to match the style of outfit that the actors were wearing as they both wore a jacket with a tie. The lighting of the shot was also all natural light like the original. the differences of the shots include, the outfit while the same style are different looking as ours used a school uniform and the original had a full colourful suit. the location was different as well as we used the wall of a school building and the original used use the fence and corner or a building in London. The lighting in both videos used natural light this was because the original was standing in front of a white building which means a lot of light was being reflected back at the subject and camera.
